Balloon Powered Car

This is a text about my groups balloon powered car. In our class we have a system in class called W.I.T (wildy important task), and we have subject to make,design and research about them. We have groups In W.I.T and the people in my group are Abbie & Emily. When we have researched,designed and tested we compete and see who’s car goes the furtherest. Using the scientific method to help us along the way.

My groups balloon powered car is made out of polystyrene,milk bottle lids and the balloon/straw. We used those materials because we saw a successful car and made a new design with it.

When we tested our design and it originally went about 13m.It was a successful car.

Then we changed something ( which i don’t know what) and the car started to turn. The car had a lot of speed but turned around in circles. Now we are discussing what has happened

When we had the competition our car went really fast but turned again and ended up going 6.13m until it turned. We were proud but we were a bit disappointed with our total because it usually goes 13m.

Our questions were:

What is the scientific method?

What is a fair test?

What do balloon powered car look like/designs?

What is friction?

what does forces mean?

what are the best forces for a balloon powered car?

What mass does the balloon powered car have to be to go the furthest distance?

What does hypothesis mean?

To validate the questions we look up a source and find an answer,Then we search another source And find their answer.Then also search another source to triple check your understanding.

If one answer was different you would search up another source to see what one is correct.

In our group we were answering What the scientific method was and we looked in images and saw an answer.Then we looked on youtube and found a video called the scientific method rap and watched it.It turned out that the video and steps were different to the image.At that point we had to search again.It turns out that the scientific method rap was just for looks it was completely wrong.

Thats the importance of validating!

decimal learning

We are learning to:

Explain what decimals actually are and how they link to fractions and percentages.

decimals are part of a whole

on the left side of the dot is the whole,and the right side is the decimals (parts of the whole).
the dot in the decimal seperates the whole number and the parts of the whole.

these are deci pipes we use them to make the decimal and its easy to explain.

this is the whole and if you look at the tenths,hundredths and thousandths

it makes sense they all take up other 10,100,1000 because they get smaller and smaller!

these are tenths that are just after the decimal point e.g = 2.3 the 3 is a tenth. i tenth is called a tenth because ten of them make a whole. below is a picture of the deci pipe tenths if you look it looks like a whole and it is because there are ten tenths and 10 tenths make a whole! 

now above are hundredths and they are after the tenths e.g 2.34 the 4 is the hundredths.hundredths are called hundredths because a 100 if them make a whole!

now these are thousandths and they are after the hundredths like this e.g - 2.345 the 5 is the thousandths. a thousand thousandths make a whole!

tenths

Read and identify decimals to two decimal places.

reading decimals is a piece of cake!

so here is an example- 7.167

so you would say- seven point one six seven

you never say-seven point 1 hundred and sixty-seven because the are completely different and you don't join them together.

Order decimals to three places, for examples, 6.25 and 6.3

now look at the whole number - the top one has 3 wholes,9 tenths,4 hundredths and 6 thousandths.
and the bottom has- 2 wholes,6 tenths,6 hundredths and 9 thousandths.

compare the wholes:
3-2 which one is bigger? = 3 wholes

compare the tenths:
9-6 which one is bigger? = 9 tenths

compare the hundredths:
6-4 which one is bigger? =6 hundredths

compare the thousandths:
9-6 which one is bigger? = 9 thousandths


now look at what whole is bigger.
since one whole is bigger it audomatically makes the 3.946 bigger
but if they had the same whole you would go to the tenths if they had the same tenths go to the hundredths and so on......

my kite

For te ara tika we had to make a kite that was aerodynamic,durable,light weight etc….

My kite is made out of paper mache because it is strong and if you don’t put too much layers your kite can be strong and lightweight!I have folded the edges of my kite and attached two bits of string,because putting two bits of string on its easier to control your kite.

My kite is a diamond shape because diamond shaped kites are aerodynamic because i have researched and validated on the internet.

one of the decisions i have made for my kite is how many layers the paper mache i would have.Also another decision was how big my kite was going to be because it would depend on how well your kite is going to fly because if you have a really small kite it probably won’t fly very well.

Zone of confusion

The Zone of confusion

The zone of confusion is when you are stuck in a learning problem and can’t get out of it .

I get in the zone of confusion when I don’t get something or can’t solve a problem.Also when I haven’t understood what other people have have told me or the teacher.

I feel Blank and empty when I am in the zone of confusion.I feel left out when I am in the zone.Everyone does.

Cats Should Not Be Banned

Cats Should not be banned

I feel that Cats should stay and not be banned or taken away by anyone.

One of the most important reasons is that they are a member of your family.They give you cuddles and kisses.They make you feel special,and cared for.

Another point is that other people can’t kill other cats, they only have the right to kill their own cats.If they kill cats why don’t they kill other animals!

Cats try to impress you by bringing Birds,mice and rats.They don’t know that they are being bad/naughty.Cats think that they are rewarding you with what they have spent hours on trying to get.

Cats should not be banned or taken away by anyone.

Instruction's for rainbow loom

How to make a single rainbow loom bracelet ( on your fingers)

Equipment needed:

• 20 rubber bands
• S/C clip

1. With a band make a figure 8 across your two fingers.

2. Add another band over the top of your figure 8.

3. Loop you figure 8 over into the middle.

4. Add another band over top and loop the bottom into the middle.

5. Keep adding 1 band as you go until it can fit around your wrist.

6. Once it can fit around your wrist , go down and find the

first loop you did and secure it with your clip.

7. Get the band that is on your finger and clip it with the same clip on the other end.

The ULTIMATE sleepover

My new dog

This is my new dog Scooby.I got him a few days ago.M
y mum surprised me and took him to Nanas house and I was there and there she comes in the this cute as little dog. Scooby is 2 months old.His birthday is on the 24th march.he sleeps with me and when he does he bite my earings !!!

Te Ara Tika Prior Knowledge

Hi Today at school we were doing Te Ara Tika and we did our prior knowledge sheet.The prior knowledge was about our Maori art we are doing and all our prior knowledge.My prior knowledge is a Koru but it did't appear in the photo.My other bit was the kiwi because it is a native animal to New Zealand and Maori were the first to live there.

Trip to Devon Intermeditate

Trip to Devon Intermediate:

On Tuesday 13 May Year’s 5,6 went to Devon Intermediate. We were there to experience what intermediate was like.Everyone  took the bus there and back.We got to chose what class to do.We could chose from Cooking,Metal,Wood,Music.

I chose Cooking.There were 6 little kitchens.I was in kitchen 3 with Isabella,Molly,bille.Our class got to make Cinnamon Scones.We cut,rolled,poured,lifted altogether we made 9 scones.The scones were uneven.Then Mr A said that he wanted some so we gave him one.We each had 1 big scone and 1 little scone.We had to wash the dishes isabella washed them and I dried them.When we were finished we cleaned up the kitchen and tried not to eat them.

As we were finishing we went on the bus on the way back to school.when I got back to school it was raining so we had to run down the gate and go back up again with my bag.Then my nana was waiting for me to go to her house.

My cousin's birthday party

Hello shanelle here.On saturday 10 may My cousin Indi turned 3 and she had a birthday party.When we got there they had 2 ponys 1 was a chesnut pony called Abbie. They other pony was a dark brown colour anher name is tink short for tinkerbell.here is a photo of Indi riding tinkerbell.

When Michaela came to my house for a play her dad was coming to pick her up at 5 and i was in my massive garden.We went on the roof and i peeked to see if he was coming and he saw me and asked where michaela was and me and michaela could't stop laughing.

Going Shopping

Hello I would like to tell you about Shopping in the holidays:

On the holidays I went shopping with my mum.We went to the Valley.I went to Number One Shoes Mitre Ten Mega and Postie.When i went to Mitre Ten Mega to get plants which were broccoli,cauliflower,green cabbage and red cabbage.When i went to number one shoes i got a new pair of sneakers that have got flowers on them and i got love heart gumboots.When i went to postie i got a got pink jersey. Latley I have got 10 new pairs of shoes O.M.G....................................!!!!!!!

Today we learnt to dodge,distract,look,keep on your toes,avoid,tricking and look for a gap. We used these statagies when we were playing games.

At Tupare Gardens there is a house.The house is where Russell Mathews and his Family lived.Russell Mathews and James Chapman Taylor built the house and it took them a total of 12 years to build.James Chapman Taylor was the designer and Russell Mathews built the house.Russell Mathews lived there with Mary Mathews[his wife] and their children Jill,John,Elizabeth. camp story

On camp at Tupare Gardens my painful experience was when I slipped on the rocks in the river and hurt my tailbone. I was excited about doing river safety in the Waiwhakaiho river because i love swimming. I was nervous/scared on the fist night i thought the tent was going to crash down on me . I persisted when i slipped on the rocks and i on going when my activitie group did river science.

camp!!!!!

I am going on camp to Tupare Gardens with the rest of room 10 and 11. I am excited about swimming in the water hole because i love swimming and I like to swim whenever I can. I am not looking forward to walking up the hill at Tupare Gardens because I get very tired. I will show empathy by if someone is lonely and they don’t have any people in their tent I will go in the tent with them. I am glad I have girls the tent with me because it would be awkward with boys !!!!
